Anselm Kiefer - These writings, when burnt, will finally give some light (Andrea Emo)

26 March to 29 October 2022

Anselm Kiefer - Palazzo Ducale Venezia

With Anselm Kiefer, contemporary art enters the Doge's Palace, for the exhibition that will be the fulcrum of the fifth edition of MUVE Contemporaneo, the biennial exhibition of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia that focuses on the relationship between today's art and museums.

Linked to the celebrations for the 1600th anniversary of the founding of Venice, the eagerly awaited installation by Kiefer, one of the greatest living artists, will be set up with the seal of a title taken from the writings of the Venetian philosopher Andrea Emo: These writings, when they are burnt, will finally give some light.

The cycle of paintings, created especially for the Doge's Palace during 2020 and 2021, unfolds in the space and magnificence of the Sala dello Scrutinio, in close confrontation with the thirty-three monumental canvases on the ceiling and with the heroic valence of the entire decorative cycle of the Palace, underlining the role of contemporary art in the reflection on universal themes, which transcends Venice to open up to current philosophical visions.
